As home of the Mets, Shea Stadium has been both a vital and ubiquitous icon in a weaving tale that merges many of New York’s biggest sporting franchises with pop culture. A place where fans have worshipped sports heroes, music legends and religious leaders; experienced nail biting drama, collective thrills, World Series celebrations and even profound moments of healing following the September 11th attacks.
Originally constructed in the 1960’s as the home of two upstart franchises-the Mets, New York’s National Expansion team, and the Jets, New York’s entry into the fledgling AFL-Shea Stadium and it’s fans have experienced everything: Championships, heroes, drama, defeat, celebrations, music and an irresistible sensation that something amazing would happen.
And now, 45 years after it’s arrival, it is time for generations of fans to reminisce, one last, exquisite time, before Shea says goodbye.
Relive all the victorious moments (1986 World Series), musical milestones (The Beatles kickoff 1965 World Tour) and movie magic (Men in Black filmed in 1977) that took place on the grounds of Shea Stadium. 80% of footage will be Mets/20% all other.
